In regards to the sculpture entitled "Beuys" by Duchamp Brancusi, once seeing it initially I wanted to dismiss this sculpture all together for its lack of formality. In comparison to other famous sculptured works of the Borque style in particular, all of them followed this strict academic formula of carving these statues with intense attention to detail-making these sculptures almost too real. For example this sculpture compared to any Bernini, it's easy to make the assumption that Bernini's works are artistically superior. But there is something unique in regards to the "Beuys" the artist did in fact intend to maintain the integrity of the limestone he was carving. The archaic simplestic style is what makes the sculpture work. Now spending some time looking at the sculpture, I am left feeling as if I was part of this embrace and it speaks volumes regarding the true nature of man as well as the human condition in its entirety.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the sculpture by Constantin Brancusi, The Kiss. I enjoyed this one most because the unity, balance, and support that was embodied in this art form. The man and woman hugging and kissing in their solid yet gentle embrace hold eye contact w each other, making this a very unifying piece. The embrace, kiss, and chest contact makes me feel as if these two are connected through mind, body, and soul. The ultimate soulmates fit each other perfectly with their solid state of material which represents its infinite nature of being indestructible. However, they make each other have a soft edged feel to them with the soft curves
